"SLCKR THN YR AVRG" was born out of a necessity to be my most unapologetic self. Little bits and pieces came out on Black Boy Wonderment but it wasn't like THIS.

During COVID season 1 (aka 2020), I was in and out of therapy, losing more and more faith in myself and my music. Until the muses downloaded these lyrics into me and it changed my energy. I've never been and/or felt THIS confident on a record EVER and to an extent, it scared me. Knowing that this song is black queer hip hop, whether I wanna admit it or not. I knew everyone wouldn't jump on board and I'd lose the audience I worked so hard to gain doing house music since 2019. I decided to shelve the album and began working on what would become In Da House. Into 2021, the songs, especially this one, started calling out to me again. I started making beats and pouring my heart out onto them. It was then that I realized that I was in my own way.

Today in honor of our ancestral holiday of Juneteenth, I free myself. However myself may look or sound like, I free myself. From the societal binds. From the homophobia of hip hop. From the house floor to the boom box. Hope y'all dig it.
