If you ever get wind of this, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for being an inspiration to me. You showed me how to be relentless with my vision, which is something I haven't always been. You showed me that I've been dreaming too small (i.e. Black Is King inspired me to work on a short film that of course I ended up shelving). You showed me the power of music, the escape that it offers and the freedom that it gives you. And for that, I honor you with this tribute.
"BREAK MY SOUL" isn't just another song for me. It became an escape during a time where I felt like that was actually happening to me. My soul was being broken by things and people in my life. Losing two family members back to deal and dealing with my mom's ailments, I felt like I was falling apart, heading toward self-destruction. And just like that, a song shifted my entire mood. And I have to honor and thank you for that.
This is merely my interpretation, a homage. This is for the Beyhive and for the Beyonce fans (because there's a difference and that's cool too). Cheers to our Renaissance.
