"A.O.I. (Ass Over Intellect)" was born in October of 2013. 9 months after King For A Day was released. I had already begun working on what would become Rhyme Therapy Vol. 1. At that time volume 1 and volume 2 were going to be released at the same time. Dave Jackson, in another one of his many moments of brilliance, advised me to break them up into two separate projects. Hence, alleviating a lot of unnecessary pressure and "run and gun" recordings. I was able to really dive into the whole DESTROY concept so it would make sense.
The original concept was to split the verses up into two IZMs: the thug versus the poet. At first, I didn't think people would get it. I didn't want to come off hypocritical. But I wanted to know if I had to perpetrate a fraud what would it sound like? What would he say? Is he a gangsta? A block nigga? A trap God? So I thought "Maybe if I sounded like these rappers on the radio people would take me seriously." Needless to say, I don't have to perpetrate a thug to pop off.
